SAN ANTONIO - Members of a San Antonio family are anxiously waiting for answers after a shootout inside a Northwest Side apartment left two men dead.
San Antonio police responded to a call around 3:30 a.m. Friday at La Risa Apartments in the 800 block of Babcock Road, where they found both men dead inside a second-floor unit.
Investigators said early on that it appeared that the two men shot and killed each other.
As of late Friday morning, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office had not made a positive identification of either men. Officials said one of the victims was 37 and other was 49.
Tina Reeves is certain one of the men is her son.
Reeves said she received a call from a woman who was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, telling her that he was dead.
“Killed for what?” Reeves wondered aloud at the scene.
Police worked for hours trying to answers to that question and many others. They collected evidence from the apartment and interviewed the woman who was inside with the victims at the time of the shooting.
A 7-year-old boy and a 9-month-old baby were also in the home, but police said no one else was hurt.
Police said they were told there had been a dispute at some point Thursday involving the woman and one of the men who was killed.
Police said when the man showed up again in the middle of the night, the gun battle began.
“My son is a gentle giant. He don't hit nobody,” Reeves said. "He loves his family. He had his kids and, you know, that's all he focuses on. Everything about him is about his kids."
Reeves also spent all morning focusing on her son and bracing herself for the possibility that he had been killed.
