SAN ANTONIO - For the last five years, the family of Pauline Diaz has gathered to celebrate her birthday. Pauline's children, grandchildren and some great-grandchildren show up. Yet Pauline is still not there.
Diaz was last seen Dec. 7, 2010, in the parking lot of the HEB at Southeast Military Drive and Goliad Road. Surveillance cameras showed her talking with another woman around Diaz's truck. Her truck was later found abandoned in Wilson County.
"I feel brokenhearted," said Pauline's daughter, Paula Martinez, who said she's filled with anxiety and headaches in the days leading up to her mother's birthday, July 24. "It takes a lot of strength, but I am my mom's voice, my sister is my mom's voice. We are all she's got."
Martinez and family members created a website soon after she disappeared and have grown the Crime Stoppers reward money to $20,000, which they hope will compel someone to speak out.
"Hopefully they have the heart to come forward and give the family closure," said Pauline's daughter, Juanita Diaz. "We need to keep her name, her picture out there, so the public knows that we're still looking for her."
The family hired a private detective in 2011 and said he turned over everything he found to the Texas Rangers and Wilson County officials, who are heading the investigation. The family has tried to get San Antonio police detectives to take over the investigation and are working with state Sen. Jose Menendez (TX-26) to get more information from investigators.
