Family says Facebook led to shooting

2 men shot in 2900 block of Chihuahua Street Friday afternoon

SAN ANTONIO – A West Side mother is mourning the loss of one son while she hopes her other son pulls through.

Both men were shot Friday afternoon in the 2900 block of Chihuahua Street.

When police arrived they found one of the men in the street and the other was under a carport near a home. The second victim was rushed to University Hospital in serious condition.

"It was because of Facebook. Gossip on Facebook and the guy that got shot put something on Facebook about these guys. They saw it on Facebook, they came over here," said Patty Martinez, a cousin of the victims and the suspect.

Martinez was with the victims when the shooting started. She says the suspect pulled out a shotgun and fired several shots, hitting both victims at least once.

Martinez says she tried to comfort one of her cousins as he died.

"He said it hurts. Then he just took his last breath. I just cried, I comforted him. I told him ‘I love him.’ I hugged him," Martinez said.

Police say the suspect took off in a dark-colored car. Witnesses reported seeing four men inside that vehicle.

Martinez says her family has been torn apart and had a message for the suspect.

"I think he needs to turn himself in. We're related. I don't know why he did this," Martinez said.
