SAN ANTONIO - Bexar County sheriff’s deputies who were chasing after a pair of suspected burglars early Monday morning faced a danger of a different kind.
The deputies had to dodge several household appliances that were falling from the suspects’ truck during the chase.
The incident began shortly after 4 a.m. Monday in the area of Loop 410 and Marbach Road.
Lt. Diana Fox with the BCSO said a deputy was in the area, answering a call about suspicious activity, when he noticed a truck pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with household appliances.
Fox said there had been a series of burglaries recently involving appliances stolen from homes that are still under construction.
She said the deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop on the truck but the driver kept going, leading him and other deputies on a chase.
The truck finally stopped in the parking lot of a motel near Loop 410 and Airlift Avenue, where the passenger got out and ran.
Deputies, with help from San Antonio police, searched the area for him but did not find him.
The driver remained with the truck and was taken into custody. Fox said he also had outstanding warrants.
Several of the appliances that fell from the truck during the chase, including a stove, could be seen laying along the access road.
No one was injured by them when they fell, and deputies later made sure they did not present a danger to drivers, Fox said.
