FDA reports show Blue Bell knew about Listeria since 2013

BRENHAM, Texas – A newly released FDA report shows that Blue Bell knew about Listeria in their plants dating back to 2013.

The reports for the plants in Brenham, Texas, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Sylacauga, Alabama, were released as part of a freedom of information act request submitted by Houston's KPRC.

In a report of inspections from March 23, 2013, through April 23, 2015, the FDA details two years of positive listeria testing indicating that plant sanitation was lacking, according to Bill Marler, a leading food safety attorney based in Seattle.

"They did not test contact surfaces. They had big coliform counts but did not find the 'root cause'," said Marler.
