SAN ANTONIO – A man suspected of shooting his common-law wife at Fort Sam Houston is now accused of trying to hire a hit man from jail to kill the woman.
According to a press release by the Department of Justice, Alvin Leon Roundtree, 51, who was federally indicted for allegedly shooting his common-law wife in June, is now facing charges of conspiracy to kill a witness to prevent testimony.
A federal criminal complaint was filed Monday morning against Roundtree, alleging that from June 26, 2013 to July 7, 2013, he conspired with his nephew, Leonard Roundtree, Jr., 28, to hire someone to kill Alvin's common-law wife.
According to the complaint, in recordings from the GEO federal jail facility, Alvin told Leonard he was going to pay $10,000 to an individual to kill his common-law wife to prevent her from testifying against him in the Fort Sam Houston shooting incident.
Leonard would deliver a prepayment of $1,000, then another payment of $9,000 after the murder had been carried out, according to the complaint.
Each defendant could face up to life in prison upon conviction of the conspiracy to kill.
The FBI, United States Marshals Service, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and SAPD are investigating this case.
