SAN ANTONIO - Hemisfair Park is changing and on Tuesday, the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation revealed the final designs for the second phase of their redesign project.

Called Civic Park, it will sit in the northwest corner of Hemisfair, an urban district with multiple parks, local businesses, residences and parking.

"It's really a gift to the people of San Antonio," said Drew Hicks, with the Hemisfair Park Redevelopment Corporation. "We're taking back this part of the city and giving it to the locals and really serving San Antonio in a way that's authentic to the spirit of the city."

San Antonio resident Elizabeth Eguia-Garcia said she's happy about all the development she's seen downtown in the last five years and she's looking forward to the transformation at Hemisfair as well.

"It has so much rich history," said Eguia-Garcia. "So much excitement around the energy and enthusiasm for development here downtown in San Antonio."

So far, Hicks said they have received a lot of public feedback.

"We've done a series of public forums, public surveys, collecting feedback from the people of San Antonio," said Hicks. "We've incorporated that feedback into these final designs and we're just thrilled to show them off."

"Every time the locals speak, the design team hears it," said Anne Krause, executive director of the Hemisfair Conservancy. "And we'll tweak the design to make sure that the delivery of the park is what we San Antonians want."

The Yanaguana Garden, which is the first phase of the Hemisfair project, is under construction and should be complete by the spring.
