Firefighters battle intense flames at abandoned home on far NE Side

Fire was reported along I-10 access road near Liberty Rd

SAN ANTONIO – Firefighters battled intense flames at an abandoned home on the city's far Northeast Side early Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported around 4 a.m. along the Interstate 10 access road just outside Loop 1604 near Liberty Road.

Firefighters said when they arrived they found the home fully engulfed in flames. Officials said at first they had some trouble with a fire hydrant that had low pressure but they eventually managed to get water out of it.

Firefighters said there are no working utilities since no one is living there, making it difficult to explain how the house would catch fire.

An arson team has been called to investigate the cause.
