Firefighters fight vacant house fire, find pit bull chained to front porch

Fire was reported just before 9 a.m. in 2000 block of Lyons St

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters fought a vacant house fire on the city's near West Side early Thursday morning and found a pit bull chained to the front porch, fire officials said.

The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. in the 2000 block of Lyons Street, which is located not far from North Zarzamora Street and Irving Middle School.

Firefighters said they were able to put out the fire with no one sustaining injuries. A neighbor however was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The pit bull was found chained to the fence but was not hurt by the fire, fire officials said.

There was no electricity to the home. Arson investigators have now been called in to help determine the cause.
