AUSTIN, Texas – A former Austin area teacher has pleaded guilty to two counts of an improper relationship with a student.

Wey was arrested in December 2015.

An arrest affidavit said a 17-year-old victim told authorities that he had sex with Wey about 10 times between August and September after he met her at a student ministry program over the summer.

The sheriff’s office said Wey also kissed and had sexual contact with another 17-year-old student on a hike.

The legal age of consent in Texas is 17, but Wey was charged because of her role as an educator, according to the Statesman.

Wey surrendered her teaching certification following her arrest.
