Geek Squad Academy introduces kids to new technology

SAN ANTONIO – Hundreds of San Antonio students are getting hands-on training in the world of digital technology.

The kids are participating in the Geek Squad Academy, sponsored by Best Buy and hosted by the Family Service Association.

For many of the kids, it's the first time they've had access to things like 3D printers and video production tools.

Organizers said they hope the kids walk away with a better understanding of the digital age and how it can help shape their futures.

Do your plans Aug. 21 involve heading out for the eclipse? We want to hear!

"I've had some students go on to have their own entrepreneurships, they start up their businesses in photography, businesses in music, or they go into music and video production,” Hilario Moreno with Teen Tech Center said. “We have schools in San Antonio where they can fit right into that pattern, so (we’re introducing them to) skills that make them more marketable in today’s workforce."

This is the third year the free camp has been offered to San Antonio students.

The Family Service Teen Tech Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, and is free to all San Antonio children.

For more information regarding enrollment, contact the Best Buy Teen Tech Center at 210-431-7529 or email teentechcenter@family-service.org.
