Ground was broken Thursday for a home that will be built on the city's East Side by members of the nonprofit, SA Youth.

In addition to learning construction skills, 35 YouthBuild students will be taking part in various projects that give back to the community.

The YouthBuild program supports teenagers and adults ages 16-24 who have struggled in a traditional classroom setting.

Students further their education, learn on the job training skills, receive mentorship and leadership assets that will help them upon graduating.

The project is a partnership with The Latino Coalition Foundation, The Rapier Trust, Bank of America and BBVA. Construction of the house is part of The Department of Labor's training program that gives high-risk youth an opportunity to continue their academic education and receive on the job training.
