SHAVANO PARK, Texas - A homeowner in Shavano Park said he’s trying to connect the dots and figure out how his house caught fire with only his dog inside.

The fire happened at a home on Fawn Drive near Northwest Military and Loop 1604.

The dog was unharmed and rescued, but the homeowner isn’t sure when he and his furry friend will be able to return to their home.

“I was coming in around 4:15 and I noticed the police and I didn’t pay any attention. Then I heard the fire truck. Then I came outside and noticed the fire was billowing out of the ridge vent and the two side vents,” said Brandon Bishop, a neighbor who witnessed the fire.

Bishop’s concerns for his neighbor was coupled with other fears.

“There’s propane tanks all through here. I was concerned that it didn’t jump across the street or to the neighbors,” he said.

Firefighters responded quickly and kept the fire contained.

The homeowner said he’s going to stay with family for now.

Arson investigators from Castle Hills and Shavano Park are working to investigate further and determine a cause.

Investigators don’t believe the fire was set intentionally.
