Homeowners on Northwest Side frustrated by constant power outages

CPS Energy says infrastructure issues to blame

SAN ANTONIO – More than 137 customers were without power on the city's Northwest Side on Monday and they say it's not the first time.

Valerie Godina and her neighbors in the Braun Station neighborhood said they have been without power six days this month.

In the 20 years Godina has lived in the area, she said the power has never been out like this before.

"It happens in the morning. It happens at night. It happens for long periods of time," Godina said. "Today it happened at 8:30 in the morning and it just got turned on (Monday evening)."

Yvonne Casanova with CPS Energy said the outages were caused by infrastructure issues and that they had four crews out repairing the whole line.

"The previous outages that affected this community, affected the rest of the line," Casanova said. "We repaired one portion of the line and it affected another portion of the line and so, it was somewhat of a domino effect."

Casanova said crews have made temporary adjustments so residents should have power until permanent repairs are completed.

Godina said she wishes they’d known what was going on before this last outage. "We have been calling,” she said. "We have been asking ‘What's going on? We need help. It's hot. Our groceries are spoiled. Our kids can't sleep.’"

It's not clear when CPS will finish the work, but Casanova said service in the meantime should not be interrupted.
