HONDO, Texas – The staff at animal control in Hondo, which is 45 miles west of San Antonio, is working more shifts after two dogs were found dead in recent days.
"That dog was attacked while it was chained up at its own home," Brandon Teer, an investigator with the Hondo Police Department said.
The other dog killed was at the home of sisters Alexia and Stephanie Rodriguez and their beloved pug-dachshund mix, Daisy.
Alexia Rodriguez said she was shocked by the attack and never thought she would lose her dog that way. "I always thought it was going to be old age. I never thought it was going to be something like this," she said.
Police in the small town said the two canines were found dead on the Northeast Side.
"Knowing she's not here anymore is just really hard, because, like, she's all I've ever known," Stephanie Rodriguez said.

They need evidence for the community, however, so they can take the dog away from its owner.
For Alexia, while nothing will bring Daisy back, she said she just wants to know what happened.
If Animal Control were to be awarded custody of the dog, Teer said the city would most likely euthanize it. The owner could face a citation for permitting an animal to run at large.
