Hotel guest requests photo of Nicolas Cage in her bed

Strange request leads to more business for Hotel Indigo

SAN ANTONIO – A stay at a downtown hotel went viral after a guest had her odd requests met.

It started as a joke for Sarah, who was visiting from Georgia and staying at the Hotel Indigo.

"She actually wrote in, thinking it was an automated request," said hotel manager Ramon Rangel. "She actually wrote in requesting a picture of Nicolas Cage in her bed by 6 p.m."

Little did Sarah know, the hotel manager would take her request seriously.

"We got the picture ready. We got the frame ready. I took it over to my general manager and said, 'Look at what I'm doing,'" said Rangel. "That's when she thought to add the little touch of the Post-it note."

Sarah was so pleasantly surprised, she posted it online and requested another picture of Nicolas Cage from "Moon Struck" the next day.

"We picked out the picture. We got it set and all ready to go, and we forgot to put it in the room," said Rangel.

Fortunately, Sarah also had a sense of humor.

She let them know she didn't see the picture and that she didn't have any bath towels.

"We decided we're going to get the picture, going to frame it and take her up some towels with the picture folded into the towels, so when she unfolds it, there's the picture as well as the towels she didn't receive," said Rangel. "As soon as she saw that, she cracked up and started laughing so loud."

Since that recent stay, Rangel said he's definitely seen an increase in business, easily increasing between 20 to 30 percent.

"I'd like to think it's because of the Nicolas Cage thing, but also if there's just booking here to come to San Antonio, that's good, too," said Rangel.

Rangel said fulfilling her requests were no trouble at all.

In fact, they're placing orders for extra picture frames just in case someone like Sarah decides to stay with them again.
