Husband of woman previously reported missing charged with her murder

Guadalupe Contreras questioned by detectives Friday

SAN ANTONIO – It’s the news Elizabeth Contreras’ family feared: She was not missing; she was murdered. Just days after her remains were found, police learned Contreras’ alleged killer is her husband.

Guadalupe Contreras was questioned by detectives on Friday. His wife, Elizabeth Contreras, didn’t make it to work or return home Aug. 2. Her family reported her missing the next day.

When asked if he had anything to say about the crime, Guadalupe Contreras responded “not guilty.”

Police asked people to be on the lookout for Elizabeth Contreras’ car. It was found the next day.

“After further investigation, there was blood found in the vehicle. There was some of the personal items of the victim found in there. That's when our homicide unit started to get more involved in this case,” said Officer Doug Greene, an SAPD spokesman.

The victim’s remains were found the same day her car was spotted.

An autopsy did not determine an exact cause of death. Still, Guadalupe Contreras was charged for his wife’s murder.
