Illnesses linked to Blue Bell Ice Cream found in Texas

Other recent recalls include hummus, window blinds, patio furniture

SAN ANTONIO – The outbreak of illnesses linked to some Blue Bell Ice Cream products has grown to include three people in Texas, bringing the total to eight.

Tests confirmed that three people in Texas had the same strain of Listeria found earlier in five people at a Kansas hospital, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Those three Texans also were hospitalized when they became ill with Listeria after eating a small cup of Blue Bell ice cream that had been produced at the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, plant.

That facility is not in operation while the investigation continues. Blue Bell has recalled more than 25 products.

The CDC advises consumers to not eat any products made at the Broken Arrow facility. Consumers can tell if the products were made at the facility by looking at the bottom of containers. The date code is followed by a letter. The letters O, P, Q, R, S and T indicate it was made at the Oklahoma plant.
