Public sex is now legal in this Mexico city

Officials in Guadalajara have legalized public sex acts in cases in which there is no third-party complaint, according to a report from El Universal, a local news outlet.

The news outlet reported last Thursday that the measure was enacted in an effort to prevent the extortion of young people who mutually consent to sexual acts.

According to KNBC-TV, a Los Angeles news outlet, the legal changes were made so that officers can focus on combating more serious crime.

KNBC-TV reported the changes to the language of the statute:

"Having sexual relations or committing acts of exhibitionism of a sexual nature in public places, vacant lots, inside vehicles or in private locations in public view will be considered administrative offenses, as long as a citizen requests police intervention."

The Los Angeles TV station reported that the change has caused some pushback from individuals who feel it will make it easier for sexual predators to hurt their victims.
