Man sentenced to 30 years in prison for super aggravated sexual assault of child

'It didn't happen,' convicted sex offender tells jury during sentencing

SAN ANTONIO – A jury has added a new conviction to the criminal resume of an ex-con. James Artie Shaw was sentenced to 30 years in prison for super aggravated sexual assault of a child.

During the punishment phase of his trial Thursday, Shaw insisted that he was not guilty of the charges.

“The reason I cannot feel any remorse is because it never happened,” Shaw said.

On Wednesday, after deliberating for four hours, a jury found Shaw guilty.

“The whole time we were on trial, I never looked any one of you in the eye,” Shaw said. “But I’m doing that now to tell you that I respect what you have done.”

A female acquaintance testified that Shaw was involved in sexual activity with her 6-year-old daughter. The woman said she walked into a room and found Shaw in bed with the child.

As he wrapped up his testimony, Shaw told the jury, “All I got to tell you is make things a bit easier, please.”
