SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Sheriff's Office Assistant Chief Deputy Bobby Hogeland resigned Thursday -- effective Friday -- according to a resignation letter obtained by the KSAT 12 Defenders.
"In short, other opportunities have presented themselves," wrote Hogeland.

The resignation follows a rash of detention deputy arrests and attempted inmate escapes from the Bexar County Jail this year.
Hogeland, a longtime member of the U.S. Marshals Service, was hired as Bexar County Jail administrator weeks after Sheriff Javier Salazar took office in January 2017.
A BCSO spokesperson acknowledged the resignation, but has so far not released any information about Hogeland's departure.
Hogeland is the second high-ranking jail official to leave BCSO this year. In April, the former deputy chief of detention Laura Balditt retired, and Capt. Ruben Vela was promoted to the role.
Salazar confirmed Friday that Vela will serve as acting jail administrator while a nationwide search is conducted to find Hogeland's replacement.
Salazar said he knows that Hogeland will do well in whatever he pursues next, but that he had yet to speak with Hogeland since the resignation letter was submitted.
