Texas House Speaker Joe Straus will not seek re-election next year, the lawmaker said Wednesday. "My time as a State Representative and as Speaker will end at the conclusion of my current term," the lawmaker from San Antonio said. || It's been two months since Hurricane Harvey came ashore in Rockport and people are still trying to get their lives back on track. For one man, losing his home to the storm only added to his difficulties. Afrean Garica is blind and for the past eight years he has used rope to help keep his old wheelchair together. || Dr. Heather Krause grew up in Rockport. She and her family evacuated in an RV before the storm hit. For Jessica Serrano the storm did not only destroy her home, it also destroyed her doctor’s office leaving her without a place to get medical help for her and her children.
TUESDAY
The UTSA Roadrunners have some unfinished business to take care of with the UTEP Miners this Saturday. Last year marked the first five-overtime game in Conference USA history and it was between the Roadrunners and the Miners. || The City of San Antonio currently allows a maximum number of eight cats or five dogs at any one residence. Residents can also have an aggregate number of eight pets, meaning a mix of both cats and dogs. || A West Side cemetery has been left with an expensive repair bill for damage caused by an out-of-control driver. The driver plowed through a chain link fence on Castroville Road late Monday night, crashing into at least two large headstones inside San Fernando Cemetery #2.
MONDAY
The city San Antonio is on pace to add 30,000 jobs by the end of this year, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said Monday. That was part of the message Wolff delivered during his State of the County Address. || Elected to City Council this year, Greg Brockhouse represents District 6 which he describes as, “A tale of two districts created by Loop 410.” D6 extends from San Antonio’s far Northwest Side down to the deep Southwest Side. He said outside 410, an area marked by high residential and commercial growth, the issues are graffiti and property crimes, while inside the loop, there is violent crime in certain areas.
One America
Members of an exclusive club made a rare joint appearance this weekend. All five living former US presidents took part in a benefit concert in Texas to raise money for hurricane relief efforts. Three hours from the Alamo City, several people made the drive to A&M for the One America Appeal concert. For a few hours, applause, smiles and music allowed people to enjoy the simpler things in life, while helping and truly showing the impact a call for help can provide when we are One America.

I know college basketball calls it the dance, but I am not sure if there is anything cool like that for the major league teams headed to the World Series. It probably doesn’t matter because you’re headed to the World Series. And if any team and city needs a boost that comes from sports, it is Houston.
And after being one of the worse teams just a few years ago, the Houston Astros came up huge in Game 7 of the American League Championship against the New York Yankees on Saturday night. They are now preparing to match up with LA Dodgers to see who will take it all this season.

Investigators in Medina County have opened a homicide investigation after a man was found shot to death in a home Saturday night.
Tragic discovery
It was an update many didn’t want, but became more likely in the weeks since a North Texas toddler disappeared. Police discovered the remains of a child while searching for 3-year-old Sherin Mathews on Sunday. The Richardson Police Department announced Sunday afternoon they found the body in a tunnel beneath a road and said it is "most likely" Mathews.
