Local teen says man has been molesting her for a decade

Javier Benavides, Jr., 36, accused of ongoing sex abuse

SAN ANTONIO – A recent text message has brought to light what San Antonio police said has been a decade of child sexual abuse.

As a result, police arrested Javier Benavides, Jr., 36, Thursday on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The arrest warrant affidavit said the alleged victim is a 17-year-old girl. However, she told investigators the abuse began when she was about seven years old.

According to the affidavit, the allegations came about in early October, after the girl's mother found sexually explicit text messages on the teen's phone from Benavides.

She later told investigators she confronted her daughter who then told her everything.

The affidavit said police also spoke with the girl. Officers said she told them the abuse began with Benavides fondling her when she was about seven.

She said things progressed over the years, eventually leading to them having sex. The girl told police she was 15 when she first had sex with the suspect, the affidavit said.

Benavides is being held in jail with a bond set at $75,000.
