San Antonio police looking for killer of ‘good guy’ in East Side neighborhood

Medical examiner working to identify victim

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are trying to figure who would want to kill a man known as a “good guy” by people in an East Side neighborhood.

Someone shot and killed that man around 4 a.m. Wednesday as he walked along a sidewalk in the 500 block of Sterling Drive.

Man gunned down overnight was ‘well-liked’ in neighborhood, police say

Police said witnesses saw a dark-colored vehicle, possibly an SUV, pull up next to the man.

They say almost as soon as he leaned into the vehicle, someone inside fired at him with a rifle, then kept firing as the driver sped off.

The man was hit at least once in his abdomen and died at the scene.

Investigators found as many as a half dozen shell casings in the middle of the street.

As of late Wednesday morning, they had not made any arrests nor announced that they had identified any suspects.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner is still working to identify the victim.

Police said he may have been homeless but he was known to people who live in the area.

They said neighbors told them the victim was well-liked and described him as a “nice guy.”
