San Antonio races for brain cancer research, community support during the Head for the Cure 5K

The 13th annual Head for the Cure 5K returns, bringing the community together for brain cancer support and research

13th Annual Head For the Cure (2026)

SAN ANTONIO – The annual Head for the Cure event brings together brain cancer patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers and supporters. Participants take part to honor loved ones, remember those who have passed away, and show support for people currently facing the disease.

Head for the Cure events raise awareness about brain cancer, a disease that is not widely understood and needs continued advancements in treatment. Funds raised through the 5K and other campaigns support clinical research and programs that help patients and their families.

The event also holds special meaning for KSAT. It honors the memory of former KSAT News Director Jim Boyle, who passed away in 2014 from glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. His legacy continues to inspire KSAT’s support for the race and the brain cancer community.

Last year, nearly 1,000 runners and walkers participated in the San Antonio race, raising more than $60,000 for brain cancer research. The race has grown into a community tradition for people running in honor of family members, friends or themselves.

Supporters can get involved by registering for the September 26th race, forming a team, fundraising or volunteering. Participants can save $7 on registration by entering the code CURE at checkout. The discount is available through race day.
