ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas – Multiple fire crews and the Texas A&M Forest Service are actively working to extinguish a 350-acre grass fire burning in Atascosa County, according to a Facebook post.
The forest service and the Atascosa County Fire Marshal and Office of Emergency Management described the fire as the “River Bluff Fire.” The fire is located between Lytle and Rossville, which is southwest of San Antonio.
Throughout Tuesday, the containment process has improved as crews continue to battle the fire and monitor changing weather patterns. As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire is 60% contained, according to Texas A&M’s Forest Service’s page.
Although the official cause of the fire is still unknown, authorities believe the fire started during the severe storms on Friday Night.
“We don’t have it confirmed, but they think it started from a lightning strike on Friday when that storm came through,” said Cheyenne Vyvlecka, chief of staff for Atascosa County Judge Weldon Cude.
Vyvlecka said no structures are involved in the fire or at risk at this point, and no road closures are in effect.
Additional crews on scene battling the fire are from Lytle, Rossville, Pleasanton, Poteet, Jourdanton, Leming, Blackhill and Bexar County, Atascosa County officials said.
There are no evacuation orders at this time, but the office is advising residents to avoid the area. If anything changes, officials will continue to update their official social media and reach out to KSAT with the latest information.
This is a developing story. Check back for more updates.
