SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Animal Care Services is thanking community partners who stepped in to help house animals after the shelter lost power for several days. Hundreds of cats and dogs were left without access to air conditioning, computers or shelter files.
The outage affected between 300 and 400 animals at ACS. With limited resources during the disruption, the shelter asked foster families and community partners to temporarily take in cats and dogs until power was restored.
Dogtopia SA in Alamo Ranch was among the businesses that answered the call.
The dog day care took in seven dogs from ACS and gave them a safe place to stay while also introducing them to potential adopters.
Staff members said the dogs are friendly and loving. They hope the added exposure will help them find permanent homes soon.
“It was a no-brainer for us,” said Amanda Chen, regional manager for Dogtopia SA. “We just love animals, dogs, cats. If we could have cats, we would. It was most importantly to help our community that’s in need.”
ACS expressed its thanks for the community supporters who helped care for animals during the outage.
The lights are now back on at ACS. Animals available for adoption can be viewed from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Anyone who wants to see the dogs housed at Dogtopia SA in Alamo Ranch can call 830-354-9650.
