San Antonio foundation continues boy’s mission to help families facing brain cancer

Jaxon’s F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely On God) Foundation is working to ease that burden for children in treatment

SAN ANTONIO – A brain cancer diagnosis can change a family’s life in an instant, bringing fear, uncertainty and costs that are not always visible.

Jaxon’s F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely On God) Foundation is working to ease that burden for children in treatment and the families caring for them.

Lenzie Davis said her son, Jaxon, was diagnosed with brain cancer when he was 3 years old.

In Jaxon’s treatments, he found ways to help other children in the hospital, including bringing them toys.

“Jaxon’s heart the whole time was on wanting to serve and help and be there for the other families and the other kids and just doing things to brighten their day,” Davis said.

After Jaxon died at age 5, his family created Jaxon’s F.R.O.G. Foundation to continue the work he had started.

The foundation distributes “smile bags” to children facing long days in hospitals and clinics, while also helping families with practical needs — from Uber gift cards and meals to support for children in hospice care.

Davis said she understands firsthand how quickly expenses can add up. Her family spent $1,300 just on parking at a Houston hospital during Jaxon’s treatment.

“That’s a lot of money, just in that area,” Davis said. “I think it goes to show all these hidden layers of the financial burden, whether it impacts people’s jobs, who has to take off work.”

The financial hill is why Davis says community support matters, and that’s something she sees every year at the Head for the Cure 5K.

“We’re gonna go through difficult things in life,” she said. “But I think it’s the reminder that we don’t have to walk those things alone.”

The 13th annual Head for the Cure 5K in San Antonio is set for Saturday, Sept. 26, with proceeds supporting organizations and health care programs for patients and caregivers.

A portion of the money raised will go to groups such as Jaxon’s F.R.O.G. Foundation.

Head for the Cure also partners with University Health to support clinical trials, research and essential programs for patients and caregivers.
