SAN MARCOS, Texas – The UTSA-Texas State football rivalry will be renewed Saturday in San Marcos, but fans are urged to prepare for extreme heat.
Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s, with the heat index climbing above 100 degrees at UFCU Stadium when kickoff begins at 2:30 p.m.
Texas State University game officials are allowing fans to bring one unopened bottle of water into the stadium.
The school is also preparing approximately 35,000 bottles of water, with “WaterMonster” tanks stationed throughout the venue for drinking water and bottle refills.
The WaterMonster tanks are a large, portable bulk water dispensing system designed to provide safe drinking water to large crowds at outdoor gatherings.
Ten cooling misters will be placed throughout the concourse, and additional emergency medical services staff will be on hand.
Gates open at 1 p.m. Officials are encouraging fans to arrive early and avoid waiting in crowded lines outside the stadium.
Officials are also advising fans to download their tickets to their phones before arriving to help speed up entry.
