Stone Oak neighbors disappointed as developments come at expense of green space

SAN ANTONIO – Construction projects in Stone Oak are drawing attention from residents who said they are concerned about growth, traffic and the loss of green space in the master-planned community.

In response to our story about a new $6.4 million shopping center, Stone Oak neighbors shared their disdain in the comments section.

“No one in Stone Oak wants it,” Denise Thornton said on Instagram, where the comment received more than 300 likes. “It is very sad watching this go up.”

Some expressed frustration about other shopping centers missing tenants and were skeptical that Stone Oak could support the additional businesses.

“This shopping center will suffer the same fate that every other shopping center here does,” Christy Wahl commented.

The majority of comments, however, expressed frustration about the loss of greenery in the community.

“They didn’t save any of the beautiful oak trees at all!” Diana Garza commented. “Now I see an ugly wall when I drive down the hill.”

“What an eyesore,” Matt Matcek added. “Can we not leave any land untouched? We need to conserve more land in the area.”

Stone Oak is a master-planned community, which means nearly all land that has not yet been developed is already zoned for future uses.
