SAN ANTONIO – A rodent activity has become an issue at Roosevelt High School’s science building, and it is believed to be tied to classroom pets, the school’s district confirmed in an email on Tuesday.
Staff members at the North East Independent School District campus told KSAT about the rodents and their concerns about a potential lingering issue earlier this month.
The rodents appear to be attracted to the science building because several pets — including fish, snakes and gerbils — are housed inside classrooms, NEISD said.
“Food for those animals is sometimes not stored correctly, which needs to be corrected,” a NEISD spokesperson said.
The district said this isn’t the first time the school has dealt with the issue. A separate rodent issue occurred last spring, according to NEISD, but it “was resolved and eradicated.”
“Teachers have been given classroom expectations to help, and pest control continues to make routine visits,” NEISD said.
The district said Roosevelt staff filed multiple work orders to fix the rodent issue, and pest control units had made prior visits to the campus.
