SAN ANTONIO – After a motorcyclist died while racing downtown earlier this week, San Antonio police found the other driver involved in the crash using a Flock camera.
On Friday, the San Antonio Police Department identified the driver as Armando Gonzales Jr., 33. Records show he was arrested and charged with racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury, which is considered a second-degree felony.

He was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center early Wednesday morning.
According to Gonzales’ arrest warrant, he was driving a rental white Tesla when he stopped at a traffic light next to the motorcyclist, Javier Romayor, 40, late Monday evening. A Flock camera positioned on Commerce Street captured their encounter.
The detective who wrote the warrant described both drivers quickly taking off from the intersection side by side.
During their alleged race, Romayor lost control and crashed his bike into a tree near the intersection of North Santa Rosa and West Commerce Street, according to SAPD. Gonzales continued driving down Commerce Street away from the wrecked bike.
After the crash, police were not able to find Gonzales but saw Romayor critically injured from the crash. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Flock camera recorded Gonzales’ license plate, and SAPD connected it to a local rental car service. The company had the Tesla’s active location, and police detained Gonzales at a restaurant on the South Side.
Gonzales confirmed to police he drove the Tesla, but according to the warrant, he didn’t see Romayor crash into a tree. Gonzales told the detective he was driving 60 mph on the 30-mph downtown street.
