In a statement, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said Buckley “violently assaulted” Hernandez on Aug. 9, 2017, outside Haven for Hope.

Surveillance video showed Buckley following Hernandez, attacking him to the ground and “repeatedly stomping on him before walking away,” the district attorney’s office said.

Hernandez was found unresponsive with severe injuries. He was hospitalized and placed on life support but died later that month.

Sentence for 2019 murder

In September, Buckley was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after he stomped a former cellmate to death inside the Bexar County Adult Detention Center in 2019.

Buckley was in jail for the 2017 murder charge when he killed 29-year-old Alexander Wise.

Both life sentences will run consecutively, the district attorney’s office said.
