Lyft returns to San Antonio on Thursday

Mayor Ivy Taylor takes Lyft to City Hall

SAN ANTONIO – The rideshare company Lyft made its return to San Antonio streets on Thursday after months of negotiations with the city.

Mayor Ivy Taylor and City Council members approved an agreement with Lyft in August that paved the way for the return.

The agreement was for a pilot program that requires Lyft drivers to go through a safety screening process.

Drivers also have the option of going through an additional free background check through the police department. Riders can check the Lyft app to see which drivers passed the checks.

"Lyft is a great example of a type of tech business that will help make San Antonio a 21st century city and help attract more millennials and workers for tomorrow's businesses," Taylor said.

The mayor used Lyft for her morning commute to City Hall on Thursday.
