OKMULGEE, Oklahoma – A man is behind bars on complaints of child abuse and child neglect after he allegedly beat his girlfriend's 5-year-old son for opening a Christmas present early.

The woman posted photos of the abuse to Facebook saying in part, "Words cannot explain seeing your baby like this and having no clue what happened. I ran to him like any mother would do crying, hugging him, begging what happened. 'Wesley hurt me bad mama,' is all he kept saying.”

The woman told KJRH-TV her boyfriend, Wesley McCollum, 25, said he was "trying to teach the boy a lesson" after the boy opened a Christmas present early.

The boy was taken to the hospital and police arrested McCollum.

The mother told KJRH she filed a protective order against her boyfriend.
