Man allegedly overstays welcome, accused of assaulting residents

Cochise Montgomery facing felony charge

SAN ANTONIO – A man who police said overstayed his welcome at a couple's Northeast Side apartment, didn't leave before assaulting the couple with the help of a friend.

That friend, Cochise Montgomery, is now facing an aggravated assault charge for allegedly using a gun during the incident.

Police said on Aug. 28 the woman who lives at the apartment asked the man to leave, but instead of doing so, he and Montgomery, who was at the apartment at the time, became angry.

The report states the man handed Montgomery a gun, and the two began assaulting the woman, her husband and her brother. San Antonio police said at one point Montgomery pointed the gun at the woman and threatened to kill her if she didn't get out of the way as her husband was being assaulted.

In the affidavit, it states that Montgomery's girlfriend eventually showed up. All three people then left the apartment.

The victims said at the time of the incident they didn't know Montgomery well. In fact, they only knew him by his nickname "Papa," but they were able to identify him from separate line ups.

Montgomery is in the Bexar County Jail being held on $75,000 bond.
