SAN ANTONIO - Two men stole a Chevrolet Suburban with a dog inside and led Bexar County sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase before pulling into a driveway where one of them was arrested, officials said.

The chase began around 7:30 a.m. Monday on New Sulphur Springs Road in southeast Bexar County, where a woman said she had left her Suburban running while she stopped at a dry cleaners in Atkins, officials said.

The owner of the Suburban, Gail Beaver, said the men jumped into her SUV with her dog inside and drove off, officials said.

"Nobody was in the parking lot. And I do this once a week. (I) left my Suburban running, went in, a car backed in next to me, jumped in and just took off," she said.

Beaver took quick action, hoping to get her 3-year-old dog, Maggie Sue, back safely and quickly.

"I immediately got on the phone with my son, and he started tracking my phone," she said. "And I called 911, and they were in pursuit as we were tracking it. So, thank God my phone was in there and my son could track it."

Deputies chased the vehicle, which led them through high-traffic areas at nearly 100 mph before they ultimately decided to let the vehicle go.

Deputies were able to use GPS to help track the vehicle to a home near the corner of South New Braunfels and Iowa Street, where they pulled into a driveway and fled on foot.

"I heard screeching coming in. It was real rough to the side of the driveway, and I looked out and saw two guys jumping out. They went through the back fence," said Christopher Vasquez, a neighbor.

Deputies eventually caught one of the men and took him into custody. The second man got away.

Beaver said she wasn't worried about her SUV. All she cared about was her dog, who was not hurt in the incident.

"I don't care about that (the SUV). I'm just so happy she (Maggie Sue) is here with us," she said.
