SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a man they say attacked a woman with a machete following a break-up in their relationship.
The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. on Vern Street on the city's South Side.
Police said the suspect had shown up earlier in the day at the woman's home and broke all the windows of her car before leaving.
That same man then returned to her home in the middle of the night attempting to disguise himself, police said, and broke down the door before attacking her.
The victim is in critical condition at University Hospital with a stab wound to the stomach and cuts to her hands from defending herself, police said.
A security guard patrolling the apartment complex eventually caught the suspect following the incident.
The man has been charged with family violence, with potentially more charges on the way.
The investigation is ongoing.
