Man arrested for leaving kids in car to check in with probation office, BCSO says

Christopher Smith, 39, charged with 2 counts of child endangerment

SAN ANTONIO – Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested a man on Monday for leaving his two children inside his car while he was reporting to the probation office.

Christopher Smith, 39, is now facing two charges of child endangerment.

The Sheriff’s Office said it found the children, ages 6 and 8, inside the truck, which was parked in the parking garage, with the windows only slightly cracked open.

The truck was not running, the office said. The high temperature in San Antonio on Monday was 94 degrees.

Deputies reported seeing the children inside, sweating. They were then safely removed from the car.

The children’s mother came and picked up the children, and Child Protective Services was notified.

Smith was at the office for a pre-trial meeting relating to a DWI arrest. He was arrested again. His bond was set at $10,000.
