Man arrested in shooting of Kerrville girl

Leroy Carrizales arrested, facing multiple charges

KERRVILLE, Texas – Police in Kerrville have arrested a man they say shot a 7-year-old girl in the head.

Leroy Carrizales, 28, was arrested Tuesday evening in the 100 block of Loyal Valley.

The shooting happened on Oct. 1 at the intersection of Schreiner Street and Paschal Avenue. Mariah Gilkey was shot while sitting in her father’s car.

Police believe Carrizales was with a group of unknown people and fired several rounds at the vehicle.

Mariah is doing OK but has many more weeks of intense therapy ahead of her.

Carrizales was charged with one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He remains in the Kerr County Jail on bonds totally more than $500,000.

A search of the Kerr County public records shows Carrizales has been arrested 10 times since 2005. Previous arrests included, possession of marijuana, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
