Man charged in fatal car accident

Bexar County sheriff's: Victim was passenger in car that landed upside down in creek on Shaenfield Road

SAN ANTONIO – A man died and another man was injured after their car flipped into a creek in the 11000 block of Shaenfield Road between FM 1560 and Loop 1604 early Thursday morning, Bexar County sheriff's deputies said.

Bexar deputies responded to the crash around 1:15 a.m. and found the vehicle upside down in the water.

"There's a concrete median and, apparently, the vehicle came down, hit the concrete median, lost control (and) went off the roadway," said Bexar County sheriff's Sgt. E.M. Conger.

First responders rushed to pull the men out of the car and said the passenger, identified as 25-year-old Justin Lambaria, was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Medical Examiner said Lambaria died from injuries sustained during the accident, specifically blunt force injury and apparent drowning.

The driver, who was identified by family members as Jordan Lopez, 26, was pulled out of the car and taken to University Hospital. He was expected to recover.

"My officer that's at the hospital with the driver did confirm to me that he did detect alcohol on the subject's breath," Conger said.

Bexar County sheriff's deputies said Lopez was charged with intoxication manslaughter and is being held at the Bexar County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Lopez was charged while he was being treated at the hospital.

Bexar County sheriff's deputies believe the driver was headed west on Shaenfield Road when he struck a curb inside the median, lost control of the car and crashed into the creek. Bexar deputies said first responders also rescued a dog from the car.
