Man charged with killing girlfriend hours after her birthday was on probation for violent felony

Joshua Jesse Garcia, 20, charged with murdering girlfriend

SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of stabbing his girlfriend in the neck before running her over and killing her was recently placed on probation for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, records show.

Joshua Jesse Garcia, 20, was arrested in October 2016 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. In March, Garcia pleaded no contest to the charge and was sentenced to 2 years probation.

The charge isn't Garcia's only run-in with the law. Online court records show he was charged with burglarizing a vehicle and evading arrest in November 2017 and theft between $100 and $750 in September 2016.

Arrest documents state Garcia stabbed his on-again, off-again girlfriend Erin Castro before running her over several times early Sunday morning.

Police said Garcia's brother witnessed the killing and that Garcia told investigators he ran Castro over because he feared what would happen if she called police.

Castro was able to call her mother moments before her death and tell her she had been stabbed, but didn't know where she was.

Castro was found in the 6100 block of Camp Bullis Road with massive trauma to her entire body. Garcia is charged with her murder.
