BCSO: Man in stolen truck arrested after chase near Medical Center

Truck reported stolen out of Atascosa County

SAN ANTONIO – A man in a reported stolen truck was arrested Thursday following a chase near the Medical Center, according to officials with the Bexar County’s Sheriff Office.

Officials said the chase started near Highway 151 when a patrolman saw the truck driving erratically.

The patrolman said he attempted to pull the driver over, but the man would not stop.

The chase came to an end in the 4300 block of Newgate Drive just off of Babcock Road, but the driver attempted to get away on foot after the truck came to a stop, officials said. The patrolman said he caught the man and took him into custody.

“He was not stopping and he did run a couple of lights,” said Sgt. Rene Ochoa with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. “He blew out a tire at one point hitting a curb. That's probably the reason he wasn't able to get too far from us.”

Sheriff’s officials said the truck actually came backwards into the patrol unit, but it  was not clear if the driver did it on purpose, or if the truck just rolled.

Sgt. Ochoa said the man was driving a truck reported stolen about a week ago out of Atascosa County.

Officials said the man, whose identity has not been released, would be charged with vehicle theft and felony evading arrest.
