Man on trial in domestic abuse case that left woman paralyzed

FLORESVILLE, Texas – A man accused of leaving a woman paralyzed two years ago during a domestic abuse incident headed to trial Tuesday in Floresville.

Brian Quintanilla was arrested in April 2014 by deputies from the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office.

He has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and assault causing bodily injury family violence. 

The victim spoke to KSAT in October 2014 about the night she was paralyzed. Chanel Garcia said Quintanilla body slammed her onto the concrete.

4:40 p.m. UPDATE: Garcia tells defense she still has feelings for Quintanilla during cross examination.

4:30 p.m. UPDATE: Garcia is cross-examined by the defense.

4:10 p.m. UPDATE: Garcia tells jury defendant called her while on bail and she recorded call.

3:55 p.m. UPDATE: Garcia passes out again and the courtroom is cleared. 

3:15 p.m. UPDATE: Garcia testifies Quintanilla slammed her to the ground and it took her about 30 minutes to convince him to call 911.

2:50 p.m. UPDATE: Testimony resumes after Chanel Garcia passes out on witness stand.

2:20 p.m. UPDATE: Chanel Garcia passes out during testimony and the courtroom is cleared. Garcia began to cry and slumped down in her chair when she began to talk about the incident.

2:10 p.m. UPDATE: Victim takes stand in Quintanilla trial. Quintanilla could get life in prison if convicted.

1:40 p.m. UPDATE: Testimony continues after break in Quintanilla trial.

12:15 p.m. UPDATE: EMS takes stand and testifies in Brian Quintanilla trial.

11:30 a.m. UPDATE: Opening statements begin after not guilty plea.
