Texas man who beat, stomped, robbed victim over $35 sentenced to prison

LUFKIN, Texas – An East Texas man who beat, stomped and robbed another man inside a convenience store has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Andrea Franks-Vanzandt, 21, agreed to a plea deal in the Aug. 5 attack and robbery in Lufkin that left the victim, 39-year-old Richard Archer, unconscious.

According to KTRE-TV, the victim was standing in line behind Franks-Vanzandt and pulled $35 out of his wallet.

Franks-Vanzandt turned around and grabbed the money from Archer’s hands.

Police said Archer tried to stop Franks-Vanzandt from leaving the store with his money, but Franks-Vanzandt began to viciously beat and kick him.

Franks-Vanzandt then walked out of the store with the money, but was found by an officer about 10 minutes later. 

KTRE reported no words were exchanged between the men and they did not know one another. 

Archer was flown to a hospital in Houston for treatment. He suffered serious facial and head injuries.
