SAN ANTONIO – A mayoral forum was held by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday for the four candidates running for mayor.
Mayor Ivy Taylor, Tommy Adkisson, Leticia Van de Putte and Mike Villarreal all took part in the forum speaking about their particular goals for San Antonio's future.
"I believe it is important for us to invest in both our people and in our infrastructure," said Taylor. "I've been working on streamlining our workforce development system to ensure that more San Antonians have the education and skills to compete for tomorrow's jobs."
"I would like to make sure that we have communities and neighborhoods where people know each other," said Adkisson. "Where people actually have each other's back, where people feel like their neighbors are neighborly."
Van de Putte said, "We have a trajectory, an opportunity, to make sure that all of our families have a secure future, and you do that by making sure that you have that strong leadership."
"We'll make sure that every day in my administration there is a laser focus on growing jobs, good paying jobs," said Villareal. "I want to make sure that our people who earn an education here, and acquire 21st century job skills are able to launch their careers here."
Villareal files ethic complaint
Villarreal also made an official ethics complaint with the city over how Van de Putte is using funds for her failed lieutenant governor race in her bid for mayor.
The complaint accuses Van de Putte of accepting more than $1,000 in political donations to her campaign which violates the cap set forth in the municipal code.
Van de Putte's campaign manager said they checked with attorneys to make sure they are following the rules.
Election Day is May 9.
