Memorial service honors longtime San Antonio veterinarian

Dr. Thomas Vice honored Saturday on UIW campus

SAN ANTONIO – A memorial service was held Sunday on the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word to honor longtime San Antonio veterinarian Dr. Thomas Vice.

Vice died of cancer in March. He was 82.

He was a frequent guest on KSAT 12's "Good Morning San Antonio" throughout the years, giving advice to pet owners and featuring pets available for adoption.

Dr. Fred Olin, Vice's friend of more than 50 years, spoke at Sunday's service.

"Dr. Vice, who in an unwise moment hired me to be his first associate vet, was just simply one of the kindest, sweetest people on earth," Olin said. "And he was just absolutely a straight-forward, honest, cheerful, wonderful man. And I've never heard anybody say anything else."

A scholarship was created in Vice's honor to help a new generation of veterinarians.
