SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Office of Military Affairs commemorated World War I Saturday with a centennial celebration at Hangar 9.
San Antonio and its community partners also honored the more than four million men and women who served during WWI.

The Air Force 70th anniversary was also saluted at the celebration.
"Because it's Military City USA, it shows the commitment this city has to the military, to national defense and all they do for our veterans,” Juan Ayala, director with San Antonio’s Office of Military Affair, said. “There is a quarter of million veterans in San Antonio (and) we honor them every day."
Hangar 9 has a special place in American history. It is the only surviving wooden hanger from World War I.
Those in attendance laid a wreath to honor Sidney Johnson Brooks, Jr.
Brooks died during his final training flight at Kelly Field.
