Mission Trails mobile home park residents could cash in on incentives

Resident: 'We haven't found a place to live'

SAN ANTONIO – The last day for residents of the Mission Trails Mobile Home Park to take advantage of cash incentives was Wednesday. However, the only way to to get the incentives was to leave the park that same day.

But for some leaving was not an option; protesting was.

Protesters said there are only seven families left living at the mobile home park and that there were seven other families that left on Wednesday to take advantage of those incentives.

Back in May, the City Council voted to make way for a mixed use development where the mobile home park stands now.

Since then, some residents have filed a lawsuit against the former property owner, but most have left.

The city said they would paid more than $2,000 to move their trailers and an extra $1,000 for moving expenses.

However, Mission Trails resident Araceli Bonilla said these cash incentives just weren't enough to help with the move.

"Right now we haven't found a place to live," said Bonilla. "Plus, the moving, it wasn't worth the money. It wasn't enough for the rent, the bills for the first month or anything."

The next deadline is in January, when everyone is expected to be cleared out of the park.
