Mission Trails residents file two lawsuits

Mission Trails residents file lawsuits against city, mobile home park owner

Residents of a South Side mobile home park, a place that was recently rezoned to make way for a new $75 million retail and residential development, are now suing the city and the management company of the mobile home park.

Residents of the Mission Trails Mobile Home Park gathered on the steps of City Hall on Monday afternoon to express their disappointment over the city's recent decision.

The residents are suing the city, saying it violated the Open Meetings Act and didn't notify residents of the pending case.

They are also suing the management company for mismanaging the park.

The residents' attorney, Nicole Elizalde, said they have a legal right to stay at the park because, according to their contracts, residents purchased the mobile homes from the park.

"Those contracts actually prohibit them from moving their mobile homes until they are completely paid for," said Elizalde.

The residents are asking the court to void the rezoning, which would allow them to remain in their homes.

As part of the rezoning passed by the city, residents who are eligible to move would receive $5,000 compensation if they move by mid-August, an amount residents say is not enough.
